There is something special about being around people who create and work hard to add value. Those who are not afraid to innovate are the difference makers. They are leaders...leaders who need inspired partners in business to make it happen and keep it relevant. No remarkable work is easy and maybe that is what I love about the stories of failure and success in each of us who create.
I happen to be one of the few who knew at an early age what I wanted to do and was actually a geek about it. As a matter of fact I subscribed to Ad Age Magazine in middle school purchased with dollars I earned. There has always been a fascination about business, leadership and particularly marketing talk. As a kid I loved talking with adults and was known for asking a lot of questions. I also loved to make things including my first business while in elementary school. I created many original things but for a while I stopped creating like most kids when they grow up. I aim to stop the trend and promote creators of all ages.
I studied marketing in college with the plan to start an advertising agency and brand strategy firm. Straight after graduation I was directed by an insightful mentor to pursue a career as an executive recruiter to, as he put it, acquire a peer group of “grey hairs” and learn how to build "best in class" teams before starting my own companies. Quickly learning the value of mentorship relationships, I followed his lead and interviewed with his contacts. I landed in executive recruiting and it turns out I'm very good at recruiting. I found that I love working with business owners and visionaries. Turns out, I love supporting passionate people in whatever they do to make a significant impact. I learned I interview people well and trust my instincts on behalf of the brand leaders I represent. This passion shift taught me a realization there are MANY ways to be fulfilled with challenging careers and I can help others make these transitions.
Bringing my experiences, problem solving skills and passion together, I build businesses and support others who create. The best brand strategies center around people who are trusted to deliver on the brand promise with autonomy and innovation. Therefore, business and careers must match around values, mission and vision. Much goes into this successful relationship from education, experience and confidence in what we stand for as a person and business - the marriage builds a great culture even during times of dramatic peaks and valleys.
As a top producing executive recruiter and business planning professional, I earned a reputation as a top producer who takes on the most challenging searches. I ran the western region as Operations VP of a top ranked retained search firm during years of rapid growth. I had 33 on my team and over $20 million in diverse search projects just after being awarded the top producer at DHR for the most job fills and best fill rate. I'm very proud of my fill rate completions!
I have spent time recruiting in a few firms as well as some contract and independent work. Part of what I love so much about retained executive recruiting is how intelligent we become about the companies and industries we represent. I take information and diligence to a high level of value in my leadership recruiting and market research processes and seek those who share this pride. As an entrepreneur who has a better way, creating my own search firm was an obvious choice.
Founder Recruiting Partners reflects the best of traditional recruiting and market research coupled with the changes and innovation I see needed to add significant value in our new economy realities.
Many in the Denver area have seen our 1930s Chandler and Price letterpress. She is very cool! We call her Hazel. Julie, my wife, and I run Idea Chic. Yes, we run a letterpress. We produce some of the most brilliant stationery and marketing including packaging for business and product use. Working on this press turns out to be a childhood dream of building with my hands. Working shoulder to shoulder with my wife's business since 2003 has been incredible. This journey continues to expand as we ship all over the world.
A day in my life might consist of letterpress printing on wood veneer or brilliant cotton to interviewing CEOs in the same day! Every day is great.
I earned a BS in Marketing at Metropolitan State College of Denver (MSCD) where I was recognized as Alumni of the Year - Giving Back in 2008 for involvement in mentorship programs and the community.
